The Tank

100 gallon acrylic tank.  Sits on a unique acrylic stand that is basically a huge sump in and of itself.

This will be a primarily LPS and non-photosynthetic coral tank with a number of different sponges and filter feeding inverts.  It will employ a rather heavy feeding regimen of phyto (Shellfish Diet) fed continuously with a syringe pump along with a number of Fauna Marin foods and various frozen foods.  The idea of the phyto is to feed some of the corals and sponges as well as support a large population of pods within the tank.  A high nutrient load is to be expected and will be dealt with using two powerful skimmers and the vodka dosing method, along with two refugia.  The fish stock is yet to be chosen, but will likely be light with one tang and some small fish.

Still in the cycling stage.  Awaiting delivery of Tampa Bay Saltwater live rock.

Tank is controlled by Profilux II Plus, which provides for lighting control, Tunze stream control, temperature control, pH/kalk control, among others.  Plan to upgrade to Ex model to control for salinity and possibly redox.  Also employs a Chrontrol system that operates as a timer for a number of other devices.

Lighting

6x 48" T5 HO Retro Setup hooked up into 3 Sylvania dimmable ballasts and controlled by my Profilux.

Simu-L Flashstick to simulate moonlight, storm effects, and sunrise/sunset.

May one day add some Aquaillumination lights, which will also be controlled with the Profilux and supplemented with the T5s.

Heating & Cooling

300W Finnex Titanium Heater controlled by Profilux.

Two 4" cooling fans mounted on canopy.

Filtration

Two skimmers: SWC Askoll Cone and C&C bubbleplate recirculating skimmer (basically a recirculating MSX 160)

Two refugia in the sump to carry Chaeto and other macros.

Plan to use vodka dosing to conrol nitrates and phosphates.  Dosing will be done by syringe pump operated by timer.  May also use Lanthanum Chloride in the event that phosphates become particularly problematic.

Circulation

Two Tunze Nanostreams (6055s) and one Tunze Stream 6105.  All controlled with the Profilux, which is used to create pulsed waves similar to effect created by Wavebox.  These pumps are all mounted on the right side of the tank and pointed in the same direction to create a powerful laminar flow pattern.  This will provide up to over 60x turnover.

Maintenance, Feeding and Supplementation

Water Changes: Continuously provided by Profilux dosing pump at a rate of a gallon a day.  Used mainly to control levels of trace elements.

Feeding: Most feeding will be delivered to the tank continuously via syringe pumps.  There will be an alternating schedule of 3 hours of feeding with the return pump shut off and 3 hours of no feeding with the return pump running.  Shellfish Diet phyto, Rotifeast, Fauna Marin foods for non-photosynthetic corals and sea fans, and some frozen foods will be delivered this way.  Larger frozen foods and possibly flake food will be fed daily for fish, sun corals, and any inverts that need it.  A large population of pods provided from the phyto dosing and use of two large refugia is also expected to help with feeding.

Calcium/Alkalinity: A large calcium demand is not expected.  Will be provided by kalk reactor controlled for pH by Profilux.

Nitrates: Vodka dosing will be the primary control on this.  Natural denitrification and refugia should also help.  Plan to use colorimeter to test for levels.

Phosphates: Also will be controlled primarily with vodka dosing and secondarily with refugia.  May use Lanthanum Chloride to further decrease levels if needed.  Also plan to use colorimeter to test for levels.

Other Supplements: Ultra Min S.

Other Maintanence: Periodic cleaning of tank with Eheim canister filter to vacuum excess detritus and to clean rocks.

Fish

None yet.

Plan to get a tang and possibly some Bangaii cardinals.

Corals

None yet.

Most will be LPS and non-photosynthetic sea fans.  Plan to get sun corals, some dendros, chalices, acans, a few menella sea fans, some duncans, a scleronephthya sp., and maybe a scolymia.

Invertebrates

None yet.

Plan to get a few basket stars, a large number of snails and hermits, and possibly a sea apple.
