About reefiris
I started reefiris for one reason: I wanted real-time online storage of my tank parameters as measured by my tank's controller. I'm a (professional) geek, so the decision to make a web site was a no-brainer. As I was doing the initial design, it occurred to me that with just a little extra work I could make a site where anybody could signup and do the same. So that is exactly what I did. I'm not trying to pose as a company here. I'm simply a guy who wants to see our hobby step up its game and allow us to expect more out of the things coming out on the market. So don't expect a "reefiris LLC" anytime soon.
My vision for this site is for it to become a living index of reef aquariums around the world. Our hobby is stuck in the past when compared to the rest of the web, and I'm trying to do my part to fix that. I imagine a world where I can say "Show me all tanks in Europe bigger than 200 gallons which use ATI skimmers" and reefiris would be the best place to get that answer.
One thing I'm committed to is to not "recreate the wheel" with certain functionality. I plan to specialize in gathering and displaying data about our tanks. For example, I don't want to write a message board or an image gallery. I'll be a good citizen of the web and let other sites specialize in those things, such as reefcentral and flickr, respectively.
